OBTAIN A REPEAT PRESCRIPTION?
Repeat prescriptions are for items
which are necessary for the treatment of chronic (ongoing) conditions.
Examples of these are diabetes, asthma, heart conditions, high blood
pressure etc. Details of the medication the patient can request on repeat
are entered onto our computer and authorised by the GP for a specific
number of repeats. Once this number has been used up the patient will
be advised they must make an appointment with the doctor to have their
medication reviewed. This is necessary to ensure the effectiveness and
appropriateness of treatment.
Patients can request their medication
by using the computer print-out on the right hand side of the prescription
(please indicate which medication is required) or fill in a request
slip available at reception.
We are also happy to accept faxed requests on 0161 866 8688.
Your
prescription will be available for you to collect within two working
days from the surgery unless patients request their prescription to
be collected by a local chemist. Not all chemists in the area collect
from our surgery so patients will need to check collection arrangements
and allow additional time before collection from the chemist.
WE
REGRET WE DO NOT TAKE REPEAT PRESCRIPTION REQUESTS OVER THE TELEPHONE
UNLESS YOU ARE HOUSEBOUND AND HAVE MADE PRIOR ARRANGEMENTS WITH THE
GP.
Acute Prescriptions
These
are for items that are required to alleviate an acute problem that has
arisen, eg sore throat, bad cough etc. Consequently, the majority of
acute prescriptions are issued during surgery consultations.
Occasionally
the doctor will prescribe items such as simple painkillers, diarrhoea
remedies etc in response to a telephone consultation. However, antibiotics
are never prescribed in response to a telephone request.

OBTAIN A SICKNESS CERTIFICATE?
An NHS certificate is not needed
if you are off work for less than seven days (including weekends). This
period is covered by a self-certification form available from your employer.
You only need to see the doctor if your absence from work is longer
or your employer requires a private certificate for which a charge is
payable.
